Tributes to new mother, 19, who died after giving birth to twins at Wolverhampton's New Cross Hospital
A tragic teenage mother died of septicaemia just 48 hours after giving birth to twins.
Sophie Burgess gave birth to tiny Evie and Oliver at New Cross Hospital but never got to meet her babies.
The 19-year-old was conscious when both babies were born but her condition soon worsened. She suffered complications and died two days later with her partner Alex Cater, from Wolverhampton, at her side.
Tributes have been paid to Miss Burgess, from Telford, called a 'wonderful sister who loved life and lived every minute to the full' by her brother.
And a fundraising page set up to raise money for the twins has raised more than £1,000 in just one day.
Mr Carter remains at the bedside of his two new children, who were born eight weeks prematurely and weighed just 3lbs each.
Miss Burgess' family said that she could not wait to become a mother.
She started to feel cramps so travelled with Mr Cater to Princes Royal Hospital in Telford, before being transferred to New Cross.
It was discovered that she had contracted septicaemia and her condition deteriorated.
Oliver was born naturally and Evie by caesarian section.
Brother Craig, aged 22, described the newborn twins as 'amazing'.
He said: "It is so sad that my sister never got to hold her children, but Alex has not left their side since.
"They are out of the incubators now and they are both doing well.
"They are amazing and Sophie would have been so proud of them.
"I honestly cannot begin to describe Sophie, she was full of life."
Scores of tributes have been left on the fundraising page - www.gofundme.com/p7tmpo - set up by family friend Ria Norris.
Miss Burgess was from Randlay in Telford and attended Phoenix Academy in Dawley. She was a care worker at Myford House in Horse Hay.
Her brother said the two babies would be her legacy, and that the family would make sure they never forgot their mother.
Mr Burgess added: "I cannot thank Alex enough he has been fantastic and did not leave her side. He was there for birth and with her when she died."
"She loved music and went to Birmingham all the time for gigs, she love her rock music and was a big of the bands All Time Low and You Me At Six.
"As well as her music she loved travelling, she had travelled all over the country.
"She could not wait to become a mother and as a family we will make sure her babies never forget her as they are her legacy now.
"The main message is that I just don't want my sister to be forgotten.
"I have sort of taken it upon myself to make sure Sophie isn't forgotten as she was an amazing person, and sister."
Sophie is survived by her parents Roy and Mandy Burgess.
It was only intended that the fundraising page would raise £500.
But donations have flooded in from friends and wellwishers.
The page reads: "We are raising funds for twins Oliver and Evie who tragically lost their mommy less than 48 hours after they were born.
"Sophie, 19, was so excited to become a mommy after being told she may struggle to have children.
"The twins were born prematurely weighing just over 3lb each and are currently still in the neonatal unit.
"We hope to raise money in Sophie's memory so that their dad Alex can use this towards items they may need or to put in a trust fund for the twins as we all know how expensive looking after children can be."
Mr Burgess said of the fund: "My dad said no one would donate, but people have come out of the woodwork to support us and we have raised more than £1,000 for Evie and Oliver, and I cannot thank people enough."
Sharon Young was among those to donate, giving £50.
She said: "We miss you terribly Soph. Just cant believe it. Love to your mum, dad, Craig and Alex and great big cuddles for Ollie and Evie. RIP beautiful girlie."
Another, Sally Hilman, said: "So tragic. Bless this little family."
And McCauley Downes added: "Unfortunately I never got the chance to meet Sophie, but I know she will be missed very dearly by all of us, she gave birth to two beautiful children, Evie and Oliver, who will be loved by Alex and all the family to no end."
