M6 closed in both directions over fears for man
The M6 was closed in both directions tonight while police responded to reports of a man on the wrong side of a safety barrier.
The motorway was closed between junction nine, for Wednesbury, and junction 11, for Cannock.
West Midlands Police warned motorists to avoid the motorway while they dealt with the incident at the junction 10 island, for Walsall.
Police were alerted to the man, believed to be in his 50s, standing on the elevated island shortly before 9pm when a passing motorist became concerned about his wellbeing.
Officers from the Central Motorway Police Group were immediately dispatched along with Walsall Police.
The Black Country Route was also closed.
The roads reopened around 40 minutes later when officers were able to bring the man to safety.
He has been taken to hospital.
Earlier tonight, a two-car collision on the A5 at Gailey, Staffordshire, also resulted in the road being closed between the Gailey Island and the M6.
