Memorial service to mark anniversary of Christina Edkins' death
A memorial service to mark the second anniversary of the death of school girl Christina Edkins took place at Birmingham Cathedral.
The 16-year-old was stabbed to death on a bus on her way to school on March 7 2013 by paranoid schizophrenic, Phillip Simelane.
More than 200 people attended the hour-long service at St Philip's Cathedral on Saturday and Christina's great uncle Chris Melia said: "The support of people in keeping Christina's memory alive is very important to her parents."
Christina, from Ladywood, was attacked on the number nine bus as it travelled along the Hagley road.
She was on her way to Leasowes High School in Halesowen.
Philip Simelane, 23, from Walsall later admitted manslaughter the grounds of diminished responsibility and was detained indefinitely under the Mental Health Act at a hearing at Birmingham Crown Court in October 2013.
A report last year found Christina Edkins's death could have been prevented if Simelane had been given mental health treatment.
