Darlaston South Councillor Doug James says there needs to be a suspension on fines.

It comes after it was revealed last week that the Manor Hospital has been fined more than £850,000 in under a year for the delays patients faced waiting in A&E and with arriving ambulance crews by Walsall Clinical Commissioning Group.

Councillor James said: "News that Walsall CCG have imposed further financial penalties as Manor Hospital fails to deliver A&E targets is undermining the morale of doctors, nurses and staff at the hospital.

"How will the Manor Hospital recruit the new nurses they require when the professional and dedicated work of staff is being brought into question by the inflexible constraints of NHS bureaucracy?

"Investing in a higher standard of diagnostic equipment at local medical centres, realigning GP contracts into team GPs to provide 24/7 cover in their areas and stopping the imposition of financial penalties, would begin to provide realistic, affordable solutions."
