One of the main routes in and out of Wolverhampton is closed all weekend.

The work, part of the ongoing renovation of the Midland Metro, will see the Bilston Road entrance to the city centre closed completely until 5am tomorrow.

Work on the tram tracks was originally scheduled to finish in November but was held up after a mine shaft was discovered near The Royal stop.

Transport authority Centro is carrying out the work, which has been dogged by delays.

Tram-users currently have to get off at The Royal – which reopened in December as part of the work – and either walk into the city centre or get on a replacement bus service.
