Controversial plans for Walsall metal recycling plant thrown out
A controversial scheme to open a metal recycling plant in Brownhills has been thrown out by planning chiefs amid concerns over traffic, noise and disturbance.
Plans to relocate Tandom Metallurgical LTD from Birmingham to Apex Road have been turned down by Walsall Council's planning committee.
Concerns were raised about the proposals, which saw two petitions handed in with more than 75 signatures in total.
Officers said it would allow for the re-use of a site that has been vacant for about five years and the improvement of a building that was in a poor state of repair.
But councillors went against their recommendations at a meeting on Thursday and threw the proposals out.
Brownhills Councillor Barbara Cassidy, who spoke out against the plans at the meeting, said: "I feel that Pelsall Road is already at breaking point in terms of traffic.
"Also, very concerned about the noise. A metal recycling plant has to be by its very nature very noisy."
