Suria Photay will go up against incumbent Labour MP Pat McFadden in the constituency that covers Coseley, Bilston and also part of Wolverhampton.

Miss Photay, who was born and raised in Wolverhampton, has previously stood in council elections.

She said: "I am honoured and humbled to have been selected in my home city. I firmly believe that Wolverhampton and Bilston can thrive and I want to support our local businesses, to attract more investment and bring prosperity back to our city.

"I am a local girl and I want to be a strong local voice for all constituents in Wolverhampton South East. Recently, I have been supporting the traders of Bilston Market to stop their rent being increased yet again. I believe we should be supporting our existing businesses; not making it more difficult for them to thrive." The Liberal Democrats have chosen Ian Griffiths as their candidate while UKIP's candidate is Barry Hodgson.
