John Franks, aged 63, sexually abused children – one aged 11 – over 19 years between 1990 and 2009.

A court heard the pervert was arrested in March 2013 when one victim came forward and reported the abuse.

Franks, from Blandford Road, Quinton, near Halesowen, was jailed for 17 years on Monday following an 11 day trial at Birmingham Crown Court.

He was found guilty of six counts of indecent assault, four of sexual assault against a child under 13 and four counts of rape against two victims, aged between 11 and 18 at the time.

After the case Dc Vicky Kelleher, from West Midlands Police, said: "The trial of John Franks was a traumatic experience for his victims and I would like to praise their courage. One of the victims told us she contacted police to ensure this didn't happen to anyone else.

"We will always take reports of sexual abuse seriously - and victims needn't worry that offences occurred many years ago because, as cases like this show, we can still build compelling cases against offenders."
