The 500-year-old Oak House, in West Bromwich, is set to undergo the £125,000 project, which is scheduled to start in April and is expected to take around 12 weeks to complete.

A survey on the house, in Oak Road, West Bromwich, has thrown up essential repairs to timber and flashing in the belvedere – a viewing tower.

Deputy council leader Mahboob Hussain said: "It is important that we maintain this historic house for future generations and this is essential maintenance work. We think it is probably the only remaining timber-framed belvedere in the country."

A survey has shown work is needed on the tower's timber failed panelling and flashing. Oak House will not be closed during the works but visitors may suffer some disruption.
