Man charged with drink driving after car hits lamp post

A man has been charged with drink driving after hitting a lamp post in a smash in the early hours.

Debris was scattered across the street after the car left the road and hit the lamp post in Stourbridge.

Emergency services were called to the scene in Providence Street, Lye, at around 1.55am today.

Fire crews from Brierley Hill and Stourbridge were called to the accident to help ensure the stricken car was safe and paramedics also attended.

West Midlands Police spokesman Deb Edmonds confirmed the driver had been arrested and charged.

Paul Andrews, aged 48, of Valley Road, Lye, was charged with driving when under the influence of alcohol.

He was bailed to appear at Dudley Magistrates Court on February 27.
