The collision occurred near The Spread Eagle pub on the A449 in Penkridge at around 8.15pm.

Police and fire crews found the Honda Civic partially embedded in the hedge.

Inspector Bev Rounds, of Staffordshire Police, said: "The car was still smoking, which was why fire crews were called, but fortunately no one was injured."

A highways team and British Telecom engineers also attended the scene.
