West Bromwich thug beat partner twice in three days
A thug who punched and repeatedly kicked his partner in two attacks over the space of three days has been spared an immediate jail term.
Craig Anslow had been in a relationship with the woman for eight years when he launched the assaults because he thought she was being unfaithful.
Wolverhampton Crown Court heard that Anslow, of Elwell Street, West Bromwich, had been drinking in the Tamebridge Pub in Tipton on New Year's Eve 2013 when he began to argue with his partner.
The 29-year-old followed her into a corridor near the toilets and punched her in the side of the head, the court was told.
Three days later, the couple began to argue at their home in West Bromwich.
Kevin Grego, prosecuting, said: "Verbal aggression turned to physical aggression. He laid into her, kicking her to the body.
"This was a sustained attack."
Defending, Simon Warlock said Anslow and his partner had both been drinking heavily at the time of the incidents due to family problems.
"These offences are not mitigable," he said. "He deserves to go to prison and he knows that he deserves to go."
On the first day of a planned trial, Anslow admitted common assault and assault occasioning grievous bodily harm.
Anslow was sentenced to 11 months in prison, suspended for two years, with a 12-month supervision requirement.
He was also ordered to complete 140 hours of unpaid work and attend a domestic abuse programme.
