The news came at a New Cross Hospital board meeting which was held yesterday and revealed the months of November and December saw staff take a five per cent increase of days off due to sickness.
Angela Adimora, director of human resources at New Cross, said a virus in the West Midlands region was the cause but insisted there was no 'significant problem' moving forward.
Dr Janet Anderson added: "If you are ill and working in an office then it it is not as bad of a problem, but when you are ill and looking after patients then you are clearly going to be off for a longer period."
