Woman killed when hit by train at Staffordshire station
Dozens of rail passengers were forced to travel on the bus because of overhead line problems between Wolverhampton and Stafford - thought to have been caused by a death on the tracks.
Buses were rolled out yesterday (Friday) to help passengers going between Wolverhampton, Penkridge and Stafford get to their destinations, extending travelling times by up to 30 minutes.
It is believed the line fault was caused by a fatality at Penkridge Station on Thursday night.
A woman died after she was hit by a train at the station, officers were yesterday trying to identify her.
London Midland announced it was running no direct services between Birmingham New Street and Liverpool Lime Street for the whole day.
The company said anyone with London Midland tickets travelling between Birmingham and Wolverhampton could use Virgin and Cross Country trains.
Dave Whitehouse, Wolverhampton Railway Station manager, said all was being done to limit disruptions for passengers.
He said: "There have been disruptions to normal services because of a overhead wire lines problem between Wolverhampton and Stafford - but it has not been too chaotic.
"Because of the problems we have had to put out replacement coach services to help passengers complete their journeys.
"Our staff have worked very hard to minimise as much disruption as possible."
One worried passenger was Chantelle Morris. She was looking to get to Manchester for the weekend to visit friends.
The 24-year-old, from Wolverhampton, said: "The delays have been a bit worrying as I need to get a train to Manchester at a certain time or I may have to pay for another ticket.
"It's been a bit of a pain but there's nothing you can do when things happen like this."
Another passenger waiting outside the station was Jackie Wilson. He suffered delays on route to Wolverhampton from Liverpool.
He said: "I've come to the city to attend a work meeting for a young people's clinic and at one stage thought I wasn't being able to make it but luckily I've got here on time."
Lucy Smith from Wolverhampton was also forced to catch a bus after planning on travelling to Manchester.
She said: "I've been delayed by about half an hour so far which is annoying but the staff here have been really helpful, it's just one of those things.
"Hopefully I can get there and meet my friends with no more problems. It looks like it is starting to ease off now."
