'Wrong' that Bilston missed off new bus route

An MP says it is 'wrong' that Bilston is not included on a new bus route between two hospitals.

From February 9 buses will run to and from New Cross Hospital and Cannock Chase Hospital as part of radical takeover plans.

Bosses at New Cross are taking over the Staffordshire-based hospital, meaning all its non-emergency surgery will take place in Cannock, which was previously mostly dormant.

Free shuttle buses will transfer patients and staff between the sites but any relatives or friends travelling with them will have to pay £5.20 for two single tickets.

They will call at Featherstone and Wedges Mills along the way but not Bilston, as Wolverhampton MP Pat McFadden had called for.

He said: "I argued strongly that there be a service from Bilston to Cannock as part of this shake up.

"I think it is wrong that this hasn't happened.

"If people are having to travel further for treatment or to see relatives, they need transport."
