Staffordshire school 'good' two years after told to improve by Ofsted
A secondary school in Staffordshire has been praised by Ofsted - two years after being told to improve.
Inspectors from the education watchdog rated all operations of Chase Terrace Technology College as 'good' as well as a separate judgement of 'good' for sixth form provision.
It was described as a 'happy and caring school, where teaching and achievement are both good, and which prepares students well for their future success'.
Students of the Burntwood school are 'polite, courteous and respectful' and 'keen to learn, and work well together and on their own'.
The education watchdog noted lessons were 'characterised by positive relationships between staff and students that create a good atmosphere that contributes well to learning'.
And that 'teachers use their good subject knowledge to plan lessons well. They explain ideas and tasks clearly, and offer a range of approaches to maintain students' interest'.
GCSE results also improved, with the figure of students securing five A* to C grades including English and Maths rising by 8% for each of the past two years - now well above the national average.
In stark contrast, the report in March 2013 stated that the school 'requires improvement' adding: 'Not all teachers in all subjects help students develop their reading, writing and communication skills'.
It noted that 'some learning lacks a sense of urgency, particularly where students spend time writing out the aims of the lesson before any learning activity begins."
The report also went on to say that the Sixth Form requires improvement because 'the progress of students is uneven in different subjects'.
But headteacher Dr. Stuart Jones, said he was delighted the school had turned around its fortunes and praised his team.
"This report is a validation of a great deal of hard work done by staff and governors over the past few years," he said.
"We have a fantastic group of young people at Chase Terrace and a very supportive parent body and wider community. The inspection outcome of 'good' is the foundation for further continuous improvement."
