MPs meet former City Link staff
MPs are meeting former employees of collapsed courier firm City Link in a move aimed at answering the 'many questions' about the way the crisis was handled.
The Scottish Affairs Select Committee met meeting workers and sub-contractors in Glasgow yesterday and MPs were questioning Mick Cash, general secretary of the Rail, Maritime and Transport union, in Westminster today.
Ian Davidson MP, chair of the committee, said: "The collapse of City Link has resulted in 2,356 jobs lost cross the UK.
"There are many questions to be answered about the way all this has been handled by the firm's owners.
"We are meeting with City Link employees and sub-contractors to hear their views on what has happened and on what should now be done."
Mr Cash welcomed the development saying it was right the 'scandal' should be investigated.
"All of the key players should be called to account for their actions. The whole murky business which led to the carefully planned Christmas collapse of City Link needs to be dragged under the spotlight."
Staff discovered they were losing their jobs when news broke on Christmas Day, and they were made redundant on New Year's Eve.
It affected workers based in Wednesbury, Stone in Staffordshire, Birmingham and the Coventry headquarters.
