100 jobs available at APC for former City Link workers
Hundreds of former City Link workers applied for 100 jobs created at APC Overnight.
The Cannock firm held a recruitment day on Tuesday.
Emma Scott, head of HR at APC Overnight said: "We have brought our recruitment plans forward as we traditionally recruit at Easter, however we recognise that there is a big group of talented people looking for work and we can hire people who know the role and require less training.
"Former City Link employers have been given priority for these vacancies."
The 100 jobs available include warehouse work, parcel sorting and forklift driving and both 24 and 30-hour contracts are available.
More than 60 people registered in advance for the recruitment day, with many more applying for jobs on the day.
APC Overnight have been at the site on Kingswood Lakeside for 18 months and currently have a workforce of 500.
Representatives attended the City Link hub in Coventry and handed out applications to workers who were made redundant.
Applicants took part in a two part assessment and interview process.
Ramesh Parkash, 49, from Sutton Coldfield worked as a warehouse operative for City Link and found out on Boxing Day from watching the news that he had lost his job.
Mr Parkash said: "I worked for City Link for seven years and heard what had happened from watching the news. When I went into work on December 29, the whole site was closed and my manager said the administrators were already on site and sent us all home. I was very shocked and started applying for jobs straight away."
Prem Kumar, 46, from Sedgley attended the recruitment day after finding out on Christmas Eve that he had lost his job.
The father of two worked as a supervisor at City Link for nine years. He said: "I found out through a friend who is a union member. The company did not tell me officially until December 29. So many people have been affected. It was very upsetting to lose our jobs this way and caused a lot of worry."
APC Overnight are considering a second recruitment drive day and anyone who is interested in the vacancies can continue to apply until all positions are filled.
Those who have already applied will hear by the end of this week and the company hope to start new recruits as early as next week.
