Windscreens bricked and tyres slashed as 50 cars targeted in Dudley vandalism spree
More than fifty cars were targeted in a vandalism spree over four days in the Dudley borough, with victims now putting up a reward to catch the culprits.
Bricks were thrown through rear windscreens and tyres slashed as the vandals caused thousands of pounds of damage to dozens of cars in Kingswinford, Gornal and Sedgley.
Officers say it is too early to say if they are all linked, but they are not ruling it out and believe a dark coloured estate car may be involved in a large number of offences.
Meanwhile, a £200 reward for information has been put up for information which leads to the offender being caught.
One woman who lives in Redstone Way in Lower Gornal said all tyres on both her cars were slashed on her driveway in the early hours of Christmas Eve.
Five other cars were damaged in the road, plus vehicles in Sandstone Close and Holloway Street from December 24 to 27.
The woman, who did not wish to be named, said her daughter had been poorly over Christmas and the family had to rely on relatives to take her to a walk-in centre as the vandals had left them without use of their cars.
"They stabbed the tyres on both of our cars on my driveway and we were stranded with my three-year-old daughter being ill.
"I've put up a £100 reward and £100 has also been donated by Nemos chip shop in Gornal.
"I want people to know that there is a reward for a successful prosecution of the people who did this as it put my daughter's health at risk. She has been poorly for a couple of weeks and we needed to get her to out of hours urgently but obviously we woke up stranded with both cars tyres all flat. My daughter is okay now though thankfully but it was a terrible Christmas for us."
The campaign has been backed by Upper Gornal and Woodsetton ward Councillor Dean Perks.
He said: "I don't want this sort of thing on our door step. It really isn't on, especially around the Christmas period when people may be struggling for money for to pay for replacements."
Police are currently looking over CCTV footage.
Inspector Julie Mason said: "We are currently speaking to people in the area and reviewing key CCTV footage to establish who is responsible for this vandalism spree.
"It appears that in most cases house bricks have been used to smash the rear windscreen of the vehicle and we have received witness reports of a dark coloured estate car which is possibly connected.
"We are asking anyone who may have seen anything or has any information to contact Dudley police on 101 or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
