Man in court over Baljit Singh murder

A man appeared in court today charged with the murder of a father whose body was found in the basement of a house.

The body of Baljit Singh was found was discovered at a property in Beeches Road, Rowley Regis, on New Years Day.

Detectives charged Stuart Millership over the weekend with Mr Singh's murder.

Millership, 32, of no fixed abode, appeared before Sandwell magistrates today. He spoke only to confirm his name at the brief hearing and the case was adjourned until Wednesday at Wolverhampton Crown Court. Millership remains in custody.

He was arrested on New Year's Eve in Kingswinford and the body of Mr Singh was discovered by officers the following day.

A post mortem discovered that the 50-year-old victim from Meadow Road, in Harborne, died as a result of head injuries and a knife wound to the neck.

Mr Singh was last seen on December 23 when he left his home to collect a birthday cake for his son.

His devastated family have been told of the latest developments in the ongoing investigation.

A 27-year-old woman arrested at the same time as Millership has been released on police bail pending further inquiries.

A 28-year-old man and 23-year-old woman from Kingswinford also remain on police bail.
