Warning of delays on M6 as roadworks scheme to start
Motorists are being warned of disruption on the motorways as a roadworks scheme gets under way in the New Year.
The schemes, on structures on the link road between the southbound M6 at junction eight near Great Barr and the M5 link with West Bromwich.
Works will include concrete repairs and associated drainage works which will start on January 5. The project also includes work at Spaghetti Junction.
It includes work to the Ray Hall Viaduct, the River Tame Bridge and Wigmore Viaduct. It is due to be completed at the end of May next year.
While the work is ongoing, the road will be reduced to a single lane and at M6 junction nine for Wednesbury, the southbound entry slip road will be closed.
Lane closures, some full carriageway and slip road closures and temporary speed limits. Where there are closures, clearly signed diversions will be in place.
Highways Agency project manager Jess Kenny said: "This important improvement work will keep journeys in these areas safe and reliable for all road users.
"By undertaking the work now, we will reduce the need to carry out in the future emergency road surface repairs which are frustrating for road users, and will therefore minimise disruption in the long-term."
