Woman seriously injured when hit by vehicle in Staffordshire car park

A woman suffered 'potentially life-changing' head injuries when she was hit by a vehicle in in a car park at a supermarket in Staffordshire.

Police stopped shoppers leaving the Aldi store in Stone after the incident late yesterday afternoon and cordoned off the car park while emergency services worked at the scene.

The woman, a 57-year-old from Stafford, was taken to The Royal Stoke University Hospital shortly after 4.10pm yesterday, after being hit by the black Ford Focus.

The woman remains in hospital and her injuries have been confirmed as life threatening.

Witnesses are asked to contact Staffordshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 487 of December 22.

Police reopened the car park at the supermarket on the Stafford Road around 7pm.

West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman Murray MacGregor said: "The CFRs were providing excellent care to the lady when the crew arrived. Together they got her onto the back of the ambulance.

"The woman had suffered a potentially very serious head injury. She was taken on blue lights to the Major Trauma Centre at the Royal Stoke University Hospital where medics were on standby for her arrival.

"The woman driving the car was uninjured but shaken by the incident."

No one was available from Aldi for comment.
