He knew the 70 year old woman had mental health problems and that she would not be at home but after shattering the window he lost his nerve,

But the jobless 46-year-old cut himself during the aborted break in and left behind a tell tale smear of blood.

He was arrested after scientific tests discovered his DNA in the spot of blood.

Karim of Glaisdale Gardens, Whitmore Reans told detectives that he tried to break in but then ' I lost my nerve and ran away,' the court heard. He admitted attempting to burgle the property on September 9th and he was given an eight month jail sentence suspended under supervision for two years with a six week night time curfew.

Judge John Warner told Karim he was not going to prison immediately because he had managed to stay out of trouble for a long time.
