Marston's-owned The Pyle Cock Inn, Wednesfield, was listed on real estate websites for £225,000 freehold, and now shows as 'sold (subject to contract)'.

A spokesperson for the brewery said: "The pub has been on the market and Marston's are currently negotiating with a prospective buyer."

Mr Soniadeep Sidhu, of Willenhall, has applied to Wolverhampton City Council for planning permission to turn the Rookery Street pub into a day nursery.

The development, if approved, will include the demolition of the rear section of the existing building, then building an extension to the rear of the remaining building.

The application shows the number of car parks will be reduced from 41 to 28, plus three disabled car parks will be added.

One online listing says the property has a prominent roadside location, three-bedroomed owners accommodation, a beer terrace and car park, and may suit alternative use.

The Pyle Cock is a traditional Victorian local dating back to 1860.
