Two arrested after pedestrian killed in Oldbury collision

A man and woman have been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after a pedestrian was killed in Oldbury.

The pedestrian, a 39-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision in Hagley Road West near to the junction on Stanley Road.

A 22-year-old woman and a 30-year-old man from a white Mercedes which drove off from the scene were arrested a short distance away near to Wolverhampton Road.

Both were taken to separate police stations in the West Midlands where they were arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and were later bailed pending further enquiries.

The car which is believed to have struck the pedestrian at around 9pm on Saturday, November 29, was removed to a secure police compound for a detailed forensic examination.

PC Stuart Thorpe, from the Collision Investigation Unit, said: "We are keen to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time and may have witnessed the collision. This is a tragic event and we are currently following up a number of enquiries. It is important that we piece together the events leading up to the collision and I would appeal directly to anyone with any information, to contact us.

"Specialist officers have been appointed to the family who continue to liaise with them at this sad time."
