Man and woman seriously injured in two-car crash

A man and woman were seriously injured in a two-car crash in Bewdley this evening.

The smash took place near to the junction of Heightington Road and the A456 in Ribbesford at around 6pm.

A woman from one of the cars involved was trapped in the vehicle for around an hour and a half while emergency services worked to release her. She was treated for spinal, pelvic and leg injuries and taken to the major trauma centre at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham.

The man, thought to be the driver of one of the cars, was treated for facial injuries and was taken to a specialist unit at Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman Suzie Wheaton said: "Crews were called to reports of a two car road traffic collision.

"On arrival at the scene crews found a man, believed to be the driver of one of the vehicles out of his car and a woman of a second car who was trapped in her vehicle.

"The man was treated at the scene for facial injuries. He was immobilised and conveyed to a specialist unit at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham for further assessment and treatment.

"Emergency services worked closely together for approximately an hour and a half to safely extricate the woman from her vehicle. The woman was treated for leg, pelvic and spinal injuries. She was given pain relief and fully immobilised at the scene.

"The woman was conveyed to the major trauma centre at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham. The hospital was pre-alerted and medics were on standby.

"The trauma doctor travelled on board the ambulance continuing to provide emergency medical treatment to the woman whilst en route to hospital."
