The show at Banks's Stadium will be held on June 13 as part of the singer's European tour.

Ticket sales alone, if the 17,000 capacity show sells out, will see around £1million change hands while there will be a further to boost to the borough's economy from hotel rooms, transport, restaurants and bars as a result of fans travelling from far and wide to see the concert.

Ben Martin, promoter at Marshall Arts Limited which is behind the show, said demand for tickets had proved as high as expected and while a few tickets were still available, he advised fans to be quick.

Mr Martin said: "Ticket sales were very strong, as expected. There was a huge rush for tickets when they went on sale yesterday (FRI) and this demand continued throughout the day.

"There is clearly a huge demand for this concert and we expect ticket sales to be strong across the weekend, with a significant number of tickets already sold.

"There are tickets still available but I would advise people to purchase tickets as soon as possible as we expect this to be a sell out show.

"Fans can expect an unbelievable concert covering a back catalogue of hits that most artists can only dream of."

He added: "Elton John is an incredible artist and from start to end the concert will be filled with songs that everyone will know and many will have a personal connection with."

Tickets are split into three price bands and are on sale from £40, with options to pay £60 or £90 for the best seats excluding fees.

On announcing the gig, the superstar said he was looking forward to playing his first show in Walsall and bosses at the ground have said it will be a 'huge boost' for the town.

Chief Executive of Walsall Football Club, Stefan Gamble, added: "We are delighted to have been chosen as a venue for Elton John's European Tour, and that ticket sales are going so well.

"This will be our first outdoor concert in over twenty years and will not only be a huge boost for the club, but a momentous day for the Town of Walsall and the wider borough as a whole."
