Free Wolves tickets sent out to thank neighbours
Wolves are giving away free match tickets to neighbours who have put up with the construction of the £50 million Compton Park development.
The club has sent out hundreds of letters to people living nearby offering two complimentary tickets to the home match against Brighton and Hove Albion on December 20.
Signed by chief executive Jez Moxey, the letters are a thank you to residents' for their 'support and understanding over the past few years' while construction work took place.
The new development featuring club facilities, new homes and a new school at Compton Park has been years in the making and is now all but complete.
To claim the free match tickets, residents have to call the ticket office from Saturday onwards and quote a unique code from the letter.
"Following the recent opening of the Wolves Academy and Arena, I wanted to write to all our neighbours at Compton Park to say 'thank you' for your support and understanding over the past few years," Mr Moxey writes in the letter.
"The Compton Park development has been a superb example of the local community and the private and public sector working together in partnership for the benefit of the city.
"As you may remember, the plans to start ambitious development were originally prompted by the decision by the University of Wolverhampton to vacate its Compton Park campus. This paved the way for a new, exciting £50m development.
"We have witnessed the creation of a new school for St Edmunds Catholic Academy, 55 new executive Redrow homes are being built, which has turned the old university site into a modern and attractive housing development, and a new club house and tennis courts for Linden Lea Tennis Club.
"From a Wolves perspective, we think our new academy and arena look magnificent and put the club in a strong position to improve our academy and football operations all on the same site.
"I would specifically like to thank all the local residents who attended the consultation meetings and gave up their time to share their thoughts with us on the project.
"I think we have delivered on all the points that were promised at the time.
"Whether you have been to a Wolves game before or not, I'm sure you will enjoy the occasion."
The new Wolves academy opened earlier this month after work started in July 2012.
Facilities include a full-size indoor arena including a 3G pitch, plus dressing rooms, fitness suite, media suite and offices as part of the club's commitment to maintaining the elite 'category one' academy status – the highest in the country.
