The blaze is said to have started in a bedroom of the property in Goodrich Avenue in Perton.

Firefighters say more than 30 per cent of the home was damaged but added that no one was injured.

Crews were called to the scene by a neighbour at 12.50pm and arrived at the house within nine minutes.

Brian Wayne, a neighbour who witnessed the fire, said: "At first my wife thought it was fog coming down, but we went outside and you could tell that something was burning. It was obviously not just some little out of control garden fire."

The fire started in one of the front first floor bedrooms. An investigation will be carried out to find the exact cause of the blaze.

The fire was put out shortly after 2pm.

Three crews were sent, one from Codsall and two from the West Midlands. They used hose reel jets and breathing apparatus to clear the fire. A large fan was later used to ventilate smoke from the house.

Mr Wayne added: "It's a real shame, but thankfully nobody was hurt and everybody was safe."
