500 sign petition against plans to close Dudley Police Station to the public
More than 500 people have signed a petition against plans to close Dudley Police Station to the public in just three days.
The front counter will be shut as part of cost-cutting measures announced by West Midlands Police.
Halesowen and Stourbridge stations will also close to the public while opening hours at Brierley Hill will be reduced.
Dudley North MP Ian Austin has started a petition urging police chiefs to reconsider the move, saying: "I'm collecting signatures from local people so we can send a clear message that these plans are dangerous and unwanted."
"I've called for the Home Secretary to make an urgent statement about public access to police stations like Dudley threatened with closure to the public," he added.
In total 27 front offices across the West Midlands will close with more than 90 of the 170 jobs at risk.
