The dispute between a man and a woman, who knew each other, was outside Morrisons on Holyhead Road in Wednesbury on September 17.

The woman and a nine-year-old boy got out of the car being driven by a man, but the three-month old baby was still inside in a car seat which had not been secured.

The driver drove off, with the rear door open, and stopped suddenly several times as the child's mother ran alongside the car.

The car eventually pulled-up, allowed the woman and the older child to get in and drove off.

A 36-year-old man from Wednesbury was arrested two days later on suspicion of assault and is currently on police bail pending further enquiries.

Police are urging shoppers who may have information to come forward and help their investigation.

PC Beverley Rowe, from Sandwell Public Protection Unit, said: "Thankfully no one was seriously injured as a result of what happened that day but it could have been very different.

"The baby was insecure and his seat could easily have fallen from the moving vehicle, which would doubtless have posed a serious risk to the child.

"We want to speak to anyone who was outside of Morrisons that Wednesday evening, at around 6pm to 6.30pm, to contact us and pass on any information they may have."

Witnesses are urged to contact Sandwell Public Protection Unit on 101.
