Wolves fans are behind the crusade to prevent the building in Molineux Street being bulldozed to make way for a car park.

The Wanderer faces being razed to the ground after an application for it to be flattened was submitted to Wolverhampton City Council.

It was bought by Wolves after Enterprise Inns closed it in 2013 and now the club want to turn it into a car park to be used primarily on match days.

But the news that the historic pub could go has sparked an outcry by fans with an online petition on you.38degrees.org.uk getting over 1,000 signatures in the first 24 hours.

In addition a Facebook page called 'Save The Wanderer pub' has been launched.

Will you be signing the petition, or would the space be more useful as car parking? Join in the debate below.

Fans have also been tweeting the hashtag #SaveTheWanderer.

Life-time Wolves fan Jamie Firkin, aged 26 of Bentley, is one of those calling for the pub to be saved.

He said: "My earliest memories of going to watch Wolves was being at The Wanderer with my late dad John before and after the match.

"I used to play football out the back with my mates.

"I think that if Wolves ran the pub more people would go to it.

"Fair play to those who are trying to save it."

Wolves said they want to bring the site back into use and develop the land similarly to Peel House which was knocked down in 2010 and turned into car parking for around 140 vehicles.

Club spokesman Matt Grayson said earlier this week: "The Wanderer Pub has been unoccupied since 2013 and we have therefore purchased it. In the short term, we would demolish the pub and it will then become a car park and will be similar to what we had done with Peel House.

"It will be used primarily for match days. It has been unoccupied for some time and we are glad to bring the site back into some use."

The bid for the demolition of the early 20th century building has been submitted by Tipton-based Humphries Demolition Ltd.

Parking around the stadium has long been an issue.

Since 2003 anyone looking to park in residential streets around Molineux have required a parking permit.
