Hundreds of enthusiasts flocked to a car show in Penkridge to celebrate the new Mini BMW series.

Mini owner and organiser Tony Walker, aged 24, launched the festival last year when he realised there were no events dedicated to the updated models of the iconic vehicle.

Around 340 drivers showed off their pride and joy at the display held at Penkridge Market yesterday. Classic Mini owners were also invited to join in the fun and competitions.

"It's been fantastic and an outstanding success. We've had enthusiasts come from as far afield as Scotland, London and Cornwall.

"I set up the event last year because I got fed up of hearing people moaning that there were classic Mini shows, but none for the new models. The first time we had about 250 cars on show and we've attracted more this year.

"The event is growing in popularity by word of mouth and social media.

"While it's for the Mini BMW, it's not exclusively so and owners of classic Minis are also welcome to come along.

"About 900 people came in and we had 14 exhibitors taking part," Mr Walker, of Telford, added.

Other attractions at the social gathering including entertainment by a DJ, RG Promotions, food, a rodeo bull machine and a bouncy castle.

Mr Walker grew up in Penkridge and is a former pupil of the village's Wolgarston High School. Car owners included hairdresser Stephanie Webster, aged 37, of Margaret's Hairdressers, in Vicarage Road, Black Heath.

She displayed her red Mini Cooper in aid of the military aid charity Help For Heroes.

"I'm a member of the Carry On Mini'in Club that attended last year, but I was on holiday and missed it.

"But when I got back everyone said how good this show was, so I wasn't going miss it this year.

"I came with my mum Margaret and we brought some collecting tins for the charity for people to pop some money in when they come to have a look at my car," she said.
