Plea for driver to come forward after grandmother and young child struck by car
A 51-year-old woman and her 18-month-old granddaughter were injured when they were struck by a car on a high street in the Black Country.
Police are now trying to trace the driver who initially stopped and asked if they were okay, but then drove off without leaving her details.
Lorraine Clulow was crossing Blackheath High Street with little Lottie Clulow-Field when they were hit by a green BMW that had pulled out from a nearby side street.
Ms Clulow managed to shield the toddler from the impact, which left both of them hospitalised with broken bones and bruising.
The female driver, aged around 60, initially got out of her car and asked Mrs Clulow if is she was okay, but then returned to her vehicle and drove off.
After the incident, which happened at around 10am on September 22, Lottie was taken to Birmingham Children's Hospital and was treated for a broken collar bone and damage to one of her ears. Mrs Clulow, of King Charles Road, Halesowen, suffered a fractured shoulder and severe bruising.
Lottie's parents, Jayden and Gemma, had flown to Portugal for their honeymoon on the morning of the accident having been married the previous weekend. They immediately flew back to the UK when they heard what happened.
Mrs Clulow, who runs Cameo hair salon on the High Street, said she has been left 'distraught' and was suffering nightmares since the incident.
She said: "It all happened so quickly but thankfully I managed to twist my body and get Lottie to my right side so I took the impact.
"I have not been able to sleep since it happened. If Lottie had been on my other side she would have been under the car. We are both suffering quite badly.
"Lottie's ear scraped across the road and she is in a lot of pain. It has been really traumatic. I just hope the police can trace the driver and stop her from doing it again."
West Midlands Police spokesman Lee Page, said the incident was being investigated. He added: "Enquiries are on-going to trace this woman, who is described as around 60-years-old with white hair and glasses. She was driving a green 'old style' BMW. Anyone with information should call police on 101."
