52-apartment retirement complex set to open
A retirement complex with 52 apartments is set to open its doors later this year.
The Maywood development, in Planks Lane, Wombourne, will comprise 35 two-bed and 17 one-bed suites.
It is on course to open in November for couples and individuals aged 55 and over to rent.
The new build, called ShireLiving, is situated between the Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal and the South Staffordshire Railway Walk, close to the centre of Wombourne.
The project, which is a partnership between Staffordshire Country Council, Wrekin Housing Trust, and Choices Housing, includes a gym, roof terrace, and a restaurant.
New residents will also have to demonstrate that they have a local connection by either currently living, working or having immediate family in Wombourne or the parishes of Lower Penn, Trysull, Seisdon, Himley, Swindon and Perton.
If there are still vacancies, new residents will be able to come from wider afar with links to any parish in the district of South Staffordshire, and then any parish in Staffordshire.
An advert for the complex states: "Your apartment is situated within a modern, well-appointed building. There are lounges and communal areas for socialising and leisure activities. There is an outdoor gym if you would like to be active, a roof terrace to enjoy the sunny days and an on-site restaurant when you would like someone else to do the cooking.
"ShireLiving apartments are available for rent to individuals and couples over the age of 55."
There are also Shire Living complexes in Cannock and Stafford.
