Both suffered serious burns at the former McKechnie Brass site, in Middlemore Lane.

The emergency services went to the scene after reports that two men were hurt at about 12.40pm.

West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman Claire Brown said: "Upon arrival ambulance staff found the two men being cared for by colleagues and the fire service.

"Both men had sustained serious electrical burns which had caused their clothes to melt.

"A 41-year-old man suffered 40 per cent partial thickness burns to his torso, arms and head. A 62-year-old man sustained 40 per cent partial thickness burns to his face, torso, arms and head and some full thickness burns to his abdomen.

"Ambulance staff and medics worked as a team to administer pain relief and fluid replacement therapy to the two men before their wounds were covered with special burns dressings."

The injured men were flown in two air ambulances the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, in Birmingham, for treatment.

Three ambulances, a paramedic area support officer, a hazardous area response team officer, a nurse, the Midlands Air Ambulances from Tatenhill and Cosford attended the scene along with a trauma doctor.

McKechnie Brass went into administration at the end of last year with the loss of 60 jobs after trading for 140 years.

A report said it had debts of nearly £4 million.
