Councillor Darren Cooper was soaked to the skin after he underwent the Ice Bucket challenge to raise cash for charity.

The leader was joined by the authority's chief executive Jan Britton for the stunt outside Oldbury Council House.

The pair were left hopping around in agony after the council-owned digger dropped its freezing load on them from four feet above their heads.

So far the duo have raised £650 for the Motor Neurone Disease (MND) charity.

Councilllor Cooper said he had planned to get soaked wearing his Albion shirt, but ended up wearing a MND t-shirt, while Mr Britton was decked out in his usual work attire.

"We had planned it for a while and thought it would be a nice touch to get the JCB involved," said Councillor Cooper.

"It was a real chilling experience having the water poured on us from four feet above our heads.

"The craze has really taken off, but the important thing is the money we have raised for charity."

In keeping with the rules of the challenge, Councillor Cooper said he is currently deciding who to nominate next for a drenching.

He added: "I'm giving it a lot of thought, but serious consideration is being given to putting forward the other Black Country council leaders.
