A £40,000 project to transform a former take away into Wolverhampton's first sushi restaurant is nearing completion.

ISO Sushi is set to open in Tettenhall Road, Chapel Ash, in the first week of October.

Workers moved in to the site last week and set about completely refurbishing the building's interior. State-of-the-art kitchen facilities are being fitted, while the walls have been re-tiled and new flooring has been put down.

A large extension at the back of the building is already complete, allowing the restaurant to seat 40 customers at full capacity.

Director Yusuf Ahmed, who runs the British franchise and lives in Chapel Ash, said: "Basically we have ripped out the inside of the building and started again.

"It was in a bit of a state when we took over, so we are spending a bit of time getting the place looking good."

The restaurant was originally due to open this month but planning issues had delayed the start of the refurbishment.

It will be the Wolverhampton-based firm's third restaurant in the UK, with branches already open in Twickenham and Isleworth. A fourth restaurant is due to open in London later this year.

Mr Ahmed added: "This is a great area with a lot going on. Wolverhampton lacks places to eat compared to other cities and towns.

"The city doesn't have a sushi restaurant. We aim to provide something a bit different."

As well as traditional sushi dishes the restaurant will also serve meat dishes from an extensive fusion menu, including burgers, rolls and soups.

The restaurant is set to open seven days a week from 11am until 11pm.

The building formerly housed Rumbles Take Away which shut down last year.

It will be the second new restaurant to open in Chapel Ash in recent months. In August Caribbean cafe Cool Runnings opened, while Banks Bistro on Bath Road recently underwent a £20,000 refurbishment.

The area has also been revitalised by the opening of the new Sainsbury's store on Ring Road St Marks and the redevelopment of the listed Attwood building.
