Firefighters were called to the blaze in Forge Road after a cooker was left unattended.
Crew Commander Ian Hughes said crews from across Wolverhampton and West Bromwich attended the scene.
He said it was believed that one of the occupants of the house had left cooking on the stove before going out.
"The kitchen was pretty much gutted," he said. "Damage was confined to that room, but the whole of the house was smoke-logged."
The 999 call came in at around midday on Saturday. Nobody was injured but Mr Hughes said the men would probably need to be rehoused.
