Burglary getaway driver had mobile phone stun gun

The getaway driver in a burglary who was found with a stun gun disguised as a mobile phone when he was arrested has been jailed.

Police found stun gun in the foot well of Marvin Forbes' VW Golf when they stopped him on Queens Road, Aston in March.

The 25-year-old had used the car as part of a burglary in Solihull the previous day, during which he acted as the getaway driver.

Traffic officers pulled him over after one of them recognised the vehicle, which had been placed on police systems following the break-in on Bryanston Road in which a safe containing cash was stolen.

They seized the Golf and found what they thought was a mobile phone as part of a routine search of the vehicle following his arrest.

But on closer inspection turned out to be a stun gun, which Forbes, of Streetly Road, Erdington, admitting buying for £20 off the internet.

But despite admitting owning the stun gun, which is illegal under firearms legislation and carries a mandatory prison sentence, he denied having any involvement in the burglary.

Forbes initially claimed he was simply paid £20 to take two men to an address in Solihull, but later changed his story after CCTV footage showed him driving past the house several times and knocking on the victim's door.

He received a 12 month sentence at Birmingham Crown Court for possession of the stun gun, and a further eight months to run concurrently for the burglary.

Dc Mark Delaney from the Solihull investigation team said: "The footage shows what the stun gun was capable of doing and it would have seriously hurt someone if used."
