The teenager was walking along Bushey Fields Road, near to Russells Hall Hospital when a man approached her.

The attacker grabbed her and threatened her with what police are describing as a 'bladed instrument' but the girl managed to run away when he loosened his grip.

The man is described as black with a light complexion. He has short afro styled hair, a thin moustache and is believed to have been wearing a distinctive yellow tracksuit top.

Detective Sergeant Leighton Shingles, from the Violent Crime Team, said: "We are currently investigating the circumstances around yesterday's incident and would like to appeal to anyone who may have been in the area at the time to come forward.

"This happened around visiting time at the hospital and we understand that the area would have been busy with people.

"The girl managed to scream out which we believe would have been heard by passers-by. The man ran away after she managed to escape and again we want to hear from anyone who saw this man in the distinctive jacket running away from the scene.

"I would like to reassure people that this type of incident is very unusual and fortunately although very shaken the girl was unhurt.

"We continue to trawl CCTV for any clues and are continuing several lines of inquiry."

Police have launched an inquiry into the assault which took place at around 7.30pm on Sunday night and are now appealing to anyone who may have been in the area of Bushey Fields Road and Kingswinford Road to come forward.

Anyone with information should contact Dudley Police on 101.
