Four arrested after Brownhills hit and run
Three people have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a hit and run which left a man critically injured.
A fourth man has also been held over the crash which happened at the junction of Hednesford Road and Wilkin Road in Brownhills.
Gareth James was knocked over as he walked home from a night out along with a friend who suffered minor injuries.
The 42-year-old is being treated at the University Hospital of North Staffordshire in Stoke-on-Trent where he is in a critical but stable condition after suffering a bleed on the brain.
Police investigating the crash, which happened in the early hours of Sunday (10), morning said a van was later recovered from Kingstanding, Birmingham.
They also revealed that a 30-year-old man had been arrested on Sunday on suspicion of attempted murder, on the same day a 23-year-old was also held over a traffic offence. Both have been bailed.
On Monday night a 17-year-old girl and a 24-year-old man were both arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remain in police custody.
The sister of Mr James, who lives with his parents in Brownhills, has spoken of her family's devastation following the crash.
Louise Edwards today said: "We are all very angry at the moment, my parents are distraught."
She described her brother as a 'big softie' and said: "His condition remains the same but he is stable. He is conscious now and that is the main thing but he is very poorly and we are very worried about him. He is heavily sedated to keep him still as he has back injuries.
"Our main concern is Gareth and we are focusing on his recovery."
Mr James was walking the five minute journey to where he lives with his parents from his local, The Waterside Pub, when the van mounted the pavement and hit both him and his friend.
The Baggies fan, who works for baby equipment company Magrini in Walsall Wood, also suffered a broken nose, broken ribs and severe cuts and bruises to his face.
Mrs Edwards thanked both friends and strangers for the overwhelming amount of messages and support they had received.
She said: "The support and well wishes from family, friends and strangers is what is getting my parents through this. My brother is so popular and loved and everyone is asking how he is. If anyone knows anything more about what happened please come forward."
