The counter at Stourport Police Station will close to the public as part of a cost-cutting plans.

Visitors to Stourport will be connected to a police call taker 24/7 via telephone intercom instead.

It comes after police said there had been a drop in demand. Figures showed only around three people visited the station each day, compared with 14 in Kidderminster.

Stourport is one of 21 stations across the West Mercia force area to lose their front counters.

Chief Superintendent Amanda Blakeman said:"The public access our services in many ways, but we have seen the number of people calling at public counters drop in recent years.

"Our review will close some public counters across West Mercia but our analysis of demand has provided evidence which has allowed us to take these steps without impacting the level of service enjoyed by communities.

West Mercia Police announced in January it would have to make further cuts of £22m over the next five years.
