Heroic police officers rescue pensioner from Great Barr blaze

An elderly man was saved from a burning building this morning by police.

Police raced to the scene after an alarm was activated at 10:05am and found the building alight. They dragged the man, who is in his 80s, from the on Scott Road, Great Barr.

Chief Inspector Jack Hadley said: "Officers were on the scene within minutes and risked their own safety to help the victim.

"Fire and ambulance staff were also quickly on the scene to offer treatment to the elderly gent, who had suffered smoke inhalation, along with the two officers who bravely entered the building.

"Thankfully everyone looks as though they have escaped without serious injury and the officers can rightly be proud of their quick actions."
