Plans revealed for long-awaited revamp of Cannock Stadium
The transformation of the former Cannock Stadium is a step closer to becoming a reality after detailed plans were drawn up.
Football pitches, allotments, children's play areas, an outdoor gym, BMX and skateboard area and a full sized 3G sports pitch are all included in the ambitious project.
Bosses at Cannock Chase Council will decide whether to give the scheme the go ahead at a cabinet meeting later today.
Cannock Chase Council leader George Adamson today said it was about time the site was developed.
He said: "This has been one of our manifesto promises and we have been drawing up plans and hope work will start next year.
"We have to get a lot fundraising together so hope to keep our promise.
"This is an exciting set of plans and will be a real asset for a deprived area that should have never been knocked down in the first place."
Cannock Stadium closed in 2008. At first it was planned to build new houses but it was later earmarked for leisure purposes.
Members of the public told the council in a consultation that they wanted football pitches built at the site. Two car parks for 100 vehicles are also included in the proposals.
