Two injured and motorists delayed after incidents on major Midland roads
There were long delays and dramatic scenes as two cars crashed on a major route and a 4x4 caught fire on the motorway yesterday afternoon.
Fire crews were scrambled to the southbound carriageway of the M6 between junction 13 for Acton Trussell and junction 14 for Stafford to reports of a Land Rover alight.
The fire, which is thought to have begun at around 3pm, caused one lane of the motorway to be blocked as fire fighters from Stafford Fire Station and Stone Fire Station tackled the blaze.
Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service said no-one was injured are not treating the fire as suspicious.
The blaze caused significant delays but all three lanes were open at around 5pm.
In a separate incident two motorists were taken to hospital after a smash on a major route near a Staffordshire beautyspot.
Emergency services were called to the A5 near Weston Park in Weston-under-Lizard at around 3pm follwong a smash between a van and a HGV lorry.
West Midlands Ambulance Service said an off-duty paramedic came across the scene and two ambulance crews were sent to attend.
Fire crews from Brewood, Penkridge and Longton fire stations attended the scene and had to cut free the driver of the van, a man thought to be in his 60s and from Codsall.
The ambulance service said he was left slightly dazed by the crash and had suffered a fractured wrist and complained of neck and back pain.
He was immobilised and taken to New Cross Hospital in Wolverhampton.
The lorry driver, described by ambulance crews as a middle aged man, was also taken to New Cross Hospital with neck pain.
