Rush hour delays after van overturns in Staffordshire smash

A van overturned after hitting a car on a main road through Staffordshire - causing long delays during rush hour.

The smash happened at about 8.30am today on the A5127 Birmingham Road in Lichfield.

A van ended up on its roof after the crash with the Fiat Punto, which was badly damaged on the driver's side.

The two male drivers, along with a male passenger in the Fiat, had climbed out of the wreckage by the time emergency crews arrived. They all escaped serious injury.

Aldridge fire station watch commander Steve Palmer said: "We were concerned about the car driver because of the depth of the intrusion into the side of the vehicle but fortunately he was not trapped by his injuries."

The road was shut for about 45 minutes
