Organisers of the Race for Stephen event said the 19-year-old urged them to press ahead – even if he was not around to see it take place.

The first event, held at the Chasewater beauty spot, near Burntwood, took place last October.

Sharon Whitchurch, chairman of the Forward Action Burntwood charity, said "Early this year we started to plan the second Race for Stephen and discussed with Stephen the plans we had to make it an even bigger success.

"Stephen expressed a wish that, no matter what happened, the event was still to take place."

The race will be held at Chasewater at 11am on July 27, with all proceeds going to the Teenage Cancer Trust.

Entry forms are available by emailing faburntwood@outlook.com.

Registration costs £10 per person or £20 per family.

Organisers also want to hear from potential sponsors and volunteers able to help with marshalling and car parking.
