The 53-year-old victim, who works at Spar in Hobs Road, Wednesbury, was getting into his car on Friday at 2pm when a man opened the passenger side door and threatened him.

The thief demanded he hand over cash and escaped in a white vehicle, which was seen heading towards Wednesbury. Detectives are now appealing to anyone who may have seen the robbery to contact them on 101 Sgt Toby Davis, from Sandwell CID, said: "The owner of the store was threatened by a man who demanded he hand over the store's takings.

"He was threatened with a weapon and fearful of being attacked the man handed over the cash before driving away. We believe that he may have been in company with another man.

"Fortunately the man was not assaulted but was obviously shaken from what must have been a frightening ordeal.

"This crime happened in broad daylight on a busy Friday afternoon and we are sure that someone must have witnessed the robbery.
