Supermarket delivery driver escapes crash with minor injuries
A supermarket delivery van collided with a car in the Black Country and ended up on its side, trapping its driver inside.
The collision happened in Darlaston Road, at the junction with Forge Street, in Darlaston, just before 3pm yesterday (Tue).
Two ambulances and a paramedic area support officer were sent to the scene after emergency services received five 999 calls about the incident.
West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman Murray MacGregor said when crews arrived they found a Tesco delivery van on its side with damage to its near side and a Mercedes car with front end damage.
The driver of the delivery van suffered minor injuries and it is understood that the car driver was not seriously injured.
Mr MacGregor said: "Fortunately neither driver was seriously hurt, but the crash did cause considerable congestion in the area.
"The driver of the van a man estimated to be in his late 40s had to be helped out of the overturned vehicle but had only minor injuries.
"The car driver, who was estimated to be in his late 20s or early 30s was similarly largely unhurt.
"Both were assessed by ambulance staff at the scene but neither required to go to hospital."
Taxi driver Anys Jawed (corr), who witnessed the crash, said: "The van driver was stuck in there but the car driver was fine. Fire crews were there trying to get him out."
Watch commander Andy Howard, from Walsall fire station, said: "The van came to rest on its side.
"We had to remove the windscreen of the van with an electric saw to get the occupant out.
"There was one male in the car and one male in the van. They were both checked over by paramedics."
